WordPress Seo Question?
Question by : wordpress seo question?
Its been a while since ive done any web design so I’m a little rusty, and I used to use joomla, so wordpress is new to me.
I have a few questions:
1. the tags I’m using for my posts, are they going to search engines as well, so a search engine would possibly pop up with that page? or, are the tags only for internally searching my site?
2. Also, I cannot find any place where I can use tags or keywords for my site as a whole, where would this be within wordpress?
3. Any tips or suggestions regarding seo? I will be doing a lot more research soon, I just want to take care of it on the small scale right now
Thanks
what about the tags im putting on the posts though? are those being used by the search engines?

I’m not aware of a way to set site wide tags, probably not the best thing to do anyway.
There are plugins like All In One SEO that provide extra fields for setting meta tag information wordpress otherwise skips, that particular plugin has been criticized for sucking up processor cycles with it’s brute force rewrite.
For a more conventional look and perhaps better home page ranking you can first create 2 pages (not posts), then make one the static home page in the Reading? settings. Recent posts are logged on a secondary page while only the nav column of the home page changes with new posts.

there are a vast amount of plugins that you can use to accomplish this. In your admin dashboard, click Plugins, then click the ‘add new’ sub-item. Type “SEO Tools” in the search, and find one that works best for you
I would only suggest using plugins that have a 4+ star rating.
When using WordPress as a content management system, you have a wide variety of plugins and themes at your disposal right threw the admin panel of your WordPress website. For more information about WordPress websites visit the WordPress Codex

Here are some SEO suggestion in the respect of your question no 3
Title Tags – The title tag is one of the most important factors in the optimization of a site and the title tag should include one or two main keywords for your site, describing what it is for.
Content – To bring a site into the ‘goldilocks zone’ of keyword density, you want your three most relevant keywords to each have a density of about 3-7% of the page.
Headings in H1, H2, H3 – Heading text on your website is read as more important than normal text by search engines.
Meta Tags – Slowly being outdated, META tags let you set certain pieces of information for your website including: description, keywords, site language, copyright information and more.
Link text – The text that links to other pages in a hyper-link, also known as anchor text, is important to include keywords in.

There’s an excellent WordPress plugin that it would be great for you to install, All in one SEO pack: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack/
It will increase the SEO rankings of your website. Generally, it is not a good idea to use tags (they are abused a lot by webmasters, so search engines tend to avoid indexing them or ranking them high).

There’s a lot of WordPress “experts” and SEO “experts” out there. Take all the advice with a grain of salt so to speak.
WordPress by default isn’t the best for seo. There are plugins you can use to help. If you are not comfortable with HTML at all then I would suggest a plugin.
If you are somewhat comfortable with html, there is a better way … See the links below.
Also, the advice about the h1, h2 tags etc is great, but having good content on your pages and dynamic title and meta info is more important.

I would agree with the plug in to use, All-in-One SEO. That will help you get your site optimized properly.
As for keyword research, I would recommend a tool called Long Tail Pro. It’s probably the fastest tool around for keyword research
