I am on a budget and there are many choices out there for pay services that will optimize your website. I have been submitting to directories manually but thought it may be better to spend some money to have it done with automated software some of these services use. Don’t do it- save your money!
Make sure you have done everything possible yourself first. That is:
1. Good, unique content.
2. Validate your code (W3C)
3.Sort description tags
4.Keep page load quick.
5. Go to Google Webmaster Tools, submit sitemap, check HTML suggestions regularly.
I will guarantee results if you do this.
Then:
6. Get page structure right (Title, h1,h2,paragraphs. Put important keywords at top.
7. Use Google wordtracker-find popular terms and track your positions- make sure these terms are in your title tags etc.
8. Build some GENUINE links (this is hard)
9.Repeat steps 2-9 whilst rgularly adding content.

I would spend 50% towards advertising such as adwards/banners etc. and 50% to buy some quality backlinks.
